Ras Issa Oil Terminal
The Dream becomes Reality
Since the discovery of oil in Marib in 1984 and the start of exporting through the 429km pipeline arriving at Ras Issa Peninsula and the use of the tanker KAWASAKI and later the Floating Storage Tank “SAFER” as a temporary storage & export facility, specifically since 1988, efforts have been made, successively over the following years, to prepare technical and economical studies for the construction of an On-shore storage & export facility. In 27/10/2005 a government decree was adopted to establish an independent management unit for Ras Issa Oil Terminal Project belongs to Yemen Oil & Gas Corporation and to be under control of SAFER Company in the future. This decree came in order to speed up the construction of an Integrated Oil Terminal replacing SAFER tanker for the following reasons:
1. The continuous annual rise of operating costs and routine maintenance for the Tanker, not to mention the difficulty of conducting general maintenance, which is done only in dry docks.
2. The continuous increase of corrosion rate and decrease of tank plates thickness due to the environmental surrounding factors as well as the life-time of tanker SAFER.
3. The continuous increase in costs arising from maintaining highest levels of safety codes.
4. The unstable climatic conditions that hinder the entry and exit of Vessels to the site of tanker SAFER, particularly when high waves, as well as the risks resulting from the current situation of loading process thus limiting the export activity.
To overcome these obstacles, objectives of the Project have been formed and clearly identified to be transformed into practical tasks associated with the completion of the Project implementation. Therefore, Project Management find team themselves facinge a national mission which requires great efforts based on the directions of the political leadership, President Ali Abdullah Saleh and His Excellency the Priminister and the unlimited support of His Excellency the Minister of Oil and Minerals and the ministry’s leadership, as well as the leadership of Yemen Oil & Gas Corporation, SAFER company and the facilities offered by the other units affiliated to the ministry, and out of this sense, and sense of responsibility, and in accordance with the principle of transparency and after approval of Yemen Oil & Gas Corporation leadership, these pages were found on this site, which will cover various aspects of the Project, including the progress and accomplishment and at the same time making technical and advertising informations available to concerned organizations and to receive views and suggestions, and to identify commitments, hence these pages were brought out and indexed according to practical requirements.
